Workable vs JazzHR vs BambooHR Hiring: The Best ATS for Small Businesses
Workable vs JazzHR vs BambooHR for small business hiring: published prices as of 13 Oct 2026, from $1,000/yr to $3,588/yr, and who each one fits.
For a team of about 20 people, the published entry prices as of 13 October 2026 are $3,588 a year for Workable Standard, $3,480 a year for JazzHR Plus, and $250 a month for BambooHR Core (up to 25 employees, ATS included in a full HRMS). The short answer: pick Workable for the most hiring features, JazzHR for a hiring-only tool at a fixed annual price, and BambooHR if you want recruiting inside the HR system you already run.
These three tools are not the same kind of product, so a straight price comparison misleads. Workable bundles recruiting with HR features, JazzHR is an ATS only, and BambooHR is an HRMS with an ATS inside.
Which is the best ATS for a small business?
There is no single winner, because the right choice depends on how many roles you open at once and whether you already use an HRMS. In short:
| Your situation | Best fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Hiring often, want AI screening and sourcing | Workable | Unlimited active jobs (fair usage applies), 15-day trial, AI agent sold on credits |
| Small hiring volume, ATS only, tight budget | JazzHR Hero | $1,000 a year, starting at 3 job postings a month |
| Growing hiring volume, ATS only | JazzHR Plus | $3,480 a year, up to 200 active jobs, AI-powered candidate matching |
| Already on BambooHR, 1 to 5 open roles | BambooHR Core | ATS included, 5 job openings, one system for employee records |
All prices below are US list prices as of 13 October 2026. Check your quote, because vendors can change prices without notice.

The BambooHR figures are for a whole HR platform, so they are not directly comparable with an ATS-only price. If you only need to hire, the effective ATS cost is harder to isolate. Our BambooHR vs HiBob vs Rippling comparison covers the HRMS side in more depth.
What do you get at each tier?
Workable's plans all include an applicant tracking system, candidate sourcing, a custom report builder and unlimited active jobs, with the note "Subject to fair usage limits". Texting, video interviews, assessments and performance & engagement are paid add-ons on Standard ($89, $109, $59 and $39 a month). Premier and Enterprise list them as included. Adding the first three to Standard brings it to $556 a month, against $599 for Premier, which also lists Referrals.
JazzHR's tiers stack. Hero has the ATS, email templates, LinkedIn Recruiter integration and premium job listings. Plus adds up to 200 active jobs, AI-powered candidate matching, structured interviews and assessments, task automation and standard reporting. Pro adds offers and eSignatures, advanced visual reporting, a custom reports builder, workflow reports and all-access support.
BambooHR's comparison table shows 5, 25 and 50 job openings in plan order (Core, Pro, Elite). Job posting, candidate records with resumes and ratings, and email and offer letter templates sit in the hiring block.
Which one has the strongest hiring features?
On the vendors' own descriptions, Workable has the broadest recruiting toolset, and BambooHR has the narrowest hiring-specific AI. All feature claims below are company statements.
| Feature | Workable | JazzHR | BambooHR |
|---|---|---|---|
| Job board posting | Company says 200+ job boards | Free job boards plus paid premium listings | Integrates with job boards like Indeed, ZipRecruiter and LinkedIn |
| Interview scheduling | Self-service booking with calendar sync | Recruiting calendar with Google and Outlook sync | Candidate self-scheduling with Google/Microsoft calendars; Meet, Zoom, Teams |
| AI | AI Recruiting Agent, credit-based | AI-powered candidate matching (Plus) | None listed for hiring on the pages reviewed |
| Careers page | Careers page builder | Not listed on pricing page | Not listed on the ATS page |
| Integrations | Company says 270+ | Not stated on pricing page | Company says 150+ |
| Reporting | Custom report builder (all plans) | Standard (Plus), advanced and custom (Pro) | Candidate Sources and Candidate Funnel reports |
Workable's homepage says its agent evaluates every inbound candidate against up to 14 job criteria and searches 400M+ profiles. Those are the company's claims, and no independent test is cited on the page.
BambooHR's self-scheduling feature lets you send a personalized scheduling link from a candidate's profile after setting up an interview template. Its ATS page also describes a separate BambooHR Hiring app for people involved in hiring.
What does Workable's AI actually cost?
Workable's pricing page says every paid account starts with 3,000 free AI credits for Workable Agent. Evaluating a candidate costs 1 credit, sourcing a passive candidate costs 2, and a candidate chat interaction costs 10. The 15-day trial does not include the agent.
After the free credits, bundles are 5,000 credits for $600, 10,000 for $1,000, and 50,000 for $4,750. Credits expire one year from purchase and are non-refundable. At the listed rates, evaluating 3,000 candidates would use up the free allowance, so a role that draws hundreds of applicants can consume credits quickly.
This matters for budgeting. The headline $299 is the cost of the tracking system, and heavy use of the AI agent can add a second line item.
Which fits a small business best?
Match the tool to your hiring pattern, not to the longest feature list.
- Under five open roles at a time, already on BambooHR: use the ATS you already pay for. Core allows 5 job openings, and you avoid a second system.
- Steady hiring with a small team and no HRMS: JazzHR Plus at $3,480 a year gives up to 200 active jobs and structured interviews, at a lower annual cost than Workable Standard.
- Frequent hiring where speed of sourcing matters: Workable. Unlimited active jobs on a fair-usage basis and the Premier bundle suit teams that want texting, video interviews and assessments in one place.
- Occasional hiring: JazzHR Hero at $1,000 a year, if three job postings a month is enough.

What about staffing agencies and AI hiring laws?
Agencies should read the fine print first. JazzHR states that standard pricing does not apply to staffing or recruiting agencies, HR service providers, franchises, multi-location businesses or organizations with over 250 employees. Agency owners should ask for a quote rather than rely on the public prices above.
Disclosure: Desk of HR is affiliated with Sortinghat, an ATS/CRM for staffing agencies. This comparison covers general small business ATS tools and does not rank Sortinghat.
On AI, New York City's Local Law 144 governs automated employment decision tools used on NYC candidates, and the city's Department of Consumer and Worker Protection publishes an FAQ. If you hire in NYC and switch on automated screening, such as AI candidate matching, read it first and get legal advice on your obligations.
What's still unclear?
Several points depend on a quote or on terms the vendors do not publish.
- Workable above 20 employees. Prices rise with headcount, and the figures here apply only to the 1-20 band.
- Workable's "fair usage" limit. The page promises unlimited active jobs but does not define the limit.
- JazzHR add-ons. The comparison table tags Advanced Visual Reporting and Offers & eSignatures as add-ons, while the Pro bullets list them as included. Add-on prices are not published, and the page states no user limits.
- JazzHR monthly billing. JazzHR publishes annual prices only.
- BambooHR plan limits. The 5/25/50 job-opening caps are listed in plan order (Core, Pro, Elite). Confirm the caps before you buy.
- BambooHR price variation. The plan table and the FAQ differ slightly ($10 vs $10.25 for Core, $17 vs $17.50 for Pro).
The weakest part of any three-way comparison like this is that a small business's real cost depends on headcount band, add-ons and negotiated discounts. Treat the published prices as a floor for planning, then request quotes from all three.
Frequently asked questions
Which is the cheapest ATS of Workable, JazzHR and BambooHR?
On published prices as of 13 October 2026, JazzHR's Hero plan is the cheapest at $1,000 per year, but it starts at 3 job postings a month. JazzHR Plus ($3,480 per year) is close to Workable Standard ($3,588 per year for 1-20 employees). BambooHR starts at $250 a month for up to 25 employees, but that buys a full HRMS, not only an ATS.
Does BambooHR include an applicant tracking system?
Yes. BambooHR's pricing page lists the Applicant Tracking System under Hiring & Onboarding in its plan comparison, with job-opening limits of 5, 25 and 50. Confirm the current terms in your quote.
Does Workable offer a free trial?
Yes. Workable says its 15-day trial includes the complete feature set of the Standard plan and needs no credit card. The trial does not include Workable Agent, its AI recruiting tool. JazzHR's pricing page mentions no free trial, only Get started and Request Demo buttons.
Can a staffing agency use JazzHR at the listed price?
Not necessarily. JazzHR says standard pricing does not apply to staffing or recruiting agencies, HR service providers, franchises, multi-location businesses, or organizations with over 250 employees. Agencies should request a quote rather than assume the $1,000 to $5,508 annual prices apply.
Do I need to worry about AI hiring laws when using these tools?
Possibly. Workable and JazzHR both market AI candidate screening or matching on their Plus-level or agent features. New York City's Local Law 144 regulates automated employment decision tools used on NYC candidates. Read the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection FAQ and take legal advice before switching automated screening on.
